If you are planning your own trip to SE Brazil you should be aware:
» Language is often a problem outside of all major tourist centres.
» Larger scale road-maps (state roads) are not available at every petrol station and can go out of print from time to time. Make sure that you arrive with the maps that you will require.
» Whilst locally hired saloon cars will get you to many of this regions reserves, a 4x4 is preferable and often necessary for that final drive away from the tarmac, especially if your arrival coincides with rains.
» Try not to drive after dark and travel with your doors locked in the major cities.
